In 2004 the Grisham house at 1102 E. McCarty was donated to the Historic City of Jefferson. It is located several blocks from the old prison redevelopment site. HCJ hopes to be part of a revitalization movement in this historic neighborhood.

The house was built circa 1895 by John and Molly Grisham. Through donations to the Greg Stockard Heritage Fund , and through the generous donations from Greg’s mother Emma Stockard, HCJ has begun renovations that have included a new roof and porch. Restoration efforts are continuing as funds become available with HCJ members donating many work hours to the project. The Grisham house currently serves as HCJ’s home for meetings and receptions.

The BittersweetGarden Club donated their efforts to landscaping the yard.

Much volunteer work has gone into cleaning, mowing, painting, patching and striping. Could you help us by donating your time, talents or making a contribution to the Heritage Fund? Contact us at 573-635-8512. There will be a spring clean-up scheduled April 12 and 19, 2008 from 12:00-2:00pm. Members are invited to come and take whatever spare materials are there (and help with the clean-up). This includes scrape lumber and many old doors.

This house is zoned commercail and currently listed for sale or lease. Being in the prison developement neighborhood it is in a prime commercial area. Contact Alan Mudd 573-632-8507 if interested.
