Press Release - Golden Hammer Awards
Historic City of Jefferson Seeks Nominations
For Golden Hammer Recognition Awards
Historic City of Jefferson is accepting nominations for the Golden Hammer Recognition, a new program that spotlights exterior building renovations in Jefferson City’s older residential and business neighborhoods.
The first recognition will be announced in June 2008 with a winner chosen monthly through October, resuming again in April, 2009.
“All over town, people are working on older homes and buildings to restore their appearance and their usability,” said Steve Veile, president of Historic City of Jefferson (HCJ). “The Golden Hammer will acknowledge these efforts and, hopefully, encourage others to see the possibilities in older structures.”
To be considered for recognition, the building must be at least 50 years old, within the city limits, and have undergone exterior renovation/restoration within the last five years. The exterior work must be completed. Both residential and commercial projects will be considered.
Each monthly winner will receive a framed recognition certificate and a Golden Hammer Recognition sign will be placed for two weeks at the site. An article about the renovation project will appear in the News Tribune.
The Golden Hammer Recognition will complement the city’s Old Town initiative, spearheaded by the City Council and the Chamber of Commerce, to rejuvenate the inner city.
“We want to acknowledge the efforts of owners to maintain the historic fabric and the ambience of Jefferson City’s older neighborhoods,” said Deedie Bedosky, HCJ Board Member and chairman of the Golden Hammer committee. “The more visible restoration projects often receive attention, but smaller projects, so important to rebuilding and maintaining neighborhoods, often go unnoticed. These are the projects that HCJ wants to feature through the Golden Hammer program.”
Nominations may be submitted at any time by letter or on the Golden Hammer nomination form, available on the HCJ website www.historiccityofjefferson.org. The organization encourages the submission of before and after photographs with the nomination.
Nominations should be mailed to Golden Hammer Recognition, Historic City of Jefferson, PO Box 105056, Jefferson City, MO 65110.
Golden Hammer committee members, in addition to Bedosky, are Mary Ann Hall, Janet Maurer, and Laura Ward..
